Library to Present ‘St. Mary’s Civil Rights Story’
The Lexington Park Library will present “A St. Mary’s Civil Rights Story” from 11am to noon Saturday, February 15, 2025.
Donations Sought for Back-to-School Fair
The St. Mary’s County NAACP 7025 will hold a back-to-school fair August 13 from 8:30 am to 3 pm at Green Holly Elementary School. Backpacks and school supplies will be given away to SMCPS Title I Schools Parent Conference attendees, while supplies last.

The NAACP 7025 Branch is planning a back-to-school fair for Saturday, August 14, 2021, from noon to 3 pm at Lancaster Park in Lexington Park.
Women’s Day Celebration: March 8, Leonardtown

Ceremony Commemorates Emancipation Day
A soil collection ceremony was held Nov. 1 in commemoration of lynching victim Benjamin Hance. Mr. Hance was said to have died in 1887 in St. Mary’s County. The Emancipation Day ceremony was one of healing and remembrance for the only documented lynching victim in the county.

Walthour Brings Lessons Back to Drayden School

Research Building Design Unveiled @ Oct. 13 Forum
The Southern Maryland Higher Education Center Board of Governors will host a full-day, public forum on education and innovation Oct. 13, 2017, from 8 am to 5 pm and unveil the design of the new Southern Maryland Research and Academic Building planned for completion on the SMHEC campus in fall 2020.
Walthour Brings Poetry to Children at CSM
Students at the St. Charles Children’s Learning Center on the La Plata campus of the College of Southern Maryland got a special treat April 21, 2016, as celebrity reader Dr. Janice T. Walthour read poetry to them for National Poetry Month.
