A construction contract has been awarded to build a new Sheriff’s Office District Office in Lexington Park. The contract was awarded by the commissioners of St. Mary’s County in late October.

The department is also looking for help from the community to locate what they believe are as many as half a dozen perpetrators.

Maryland’s first sheriff’s office recently honored Maryland’s first African-American sheriff. On Feb. 22, 2018, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office honored former sheriff Joseph Lee Somerville Sr., the first African-American to be elected sheriff in the state.
