Volunteers Needed at Lego Robotics Event
College of Southern Maryland will be the venue for the Lego Robotics Championship on April 8, 2017, and volunteers are needed to help out on the day of the event. The Patuxent Partnership has put out a call to members to be a part of the event.
Calvert Schools Rewarded for Saving Power
Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative rewards its customer-members for finding ways to consume less power. Most recently, SMECO and energy management company Comverge/CPower returned bill credits and rebates that totaled nearly $100,000 to Calvert County public school system.
Conference Focuses on Women in STEM
The College of Southern Maryland has created an event that will expose women in their teens and older to a range of career opportunities in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). CSM’s Women + STEM Conference = Infinite Possibilities will be held from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm April 1 at the college’s La Plata Campus and focuses on women in STEM.

William and Janet Cave have been married for 63 years, and have never missed a Valentine’s Day together. This year, however, they might have spent it apart if not for the kindness and creativity of staff at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital.
Mary Shasho Remembered Through CSM Scholarships
Two College of Southern Maryland scholarships have been created in memory of the late Mary Shasho, a local volunteer and enthusiastic supporter of all levels of Scouting in Southern Maryland. The scholarship has been established by Mrs. Shasho’s husband, local businessman Harry Shasho of Shasho Consulting.

The 28th annual Southern Maryland High School Computer Bowl was held March 4. Sponsored by Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative, the competition underscores the importance and value of computer skills for students who plan to become proficient in technical and industrial fields.
CSM Chooses New President
Dr. Maureen Murphy has been selected as the fifth president of the College of Southern Maryland. The announcement was made by the CSM Board of Trustees this month.
