The St. Mary’s County Health Department will temporarily close its COVID-19 testing sites Wednesday, January 20, 2021, in order to redirect staff resources for community-based COVID-19 testing and vaccination clinics that day.

Fire on Navy Ship Under Investigation
Officials are investigating a fire on the USS Bonhomme Richard on Sunday that injured a dozen sailors and several civilians. The fire is believed to have stated in a cargo hold on the ship docked at Naval Base San Diego.

The downward trend of COVID-19 cases among DoD-affiliated personnel has ended. Cases spiked 18% over the previous week among all employees and 20% among troops.

US aircraft scrambled on Saturday to intercept four Russian reconnaissance jets off Alaska. The intercept was the sixth time US fighters have intercepted Russian military aircraft near Alaska this month and the 10th time this year.

Pilot Project Will Monitor COVID-19 in Wastewater
The St. Mary’s County Metropolitan Commission, St. Mary’s County Health Department, and St. Mary’s College of Maryland have partnered on a pilot project to monitor the presence of COVID-19 in local wastewater.
County Lifts More COVID-19 Restrictions
Beginning today, Friday, June 12, 2020, at 5 pm, re-openings in St. Mary’s County include other recreational establishments and food service establishments re-opening at 50% capacity and following established guidelines.
