Lorenzini Named Maryland Top 100 Women
The Daily Record has named Judge Amy Lorenzini, Circuit Court for St. Mary’s County, to its 2023 listing of Maryland’s Top 100 Women. The list began in 1996 to recognize outstanding achievements by women demonstrated through professional accomplishments, community leadership, and mentoring.

Dahlgren Proposes Expanding Zone for Weapons Testing
Some boaters and watermen say they are worried about a proposed expansion of the zone for weapons testing on the Potomac River. Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division filed a notice seeking public comment on expanding the middle “danger zone” that extends about 20 miles downriver from Dahlgren, VA.
Deadline April 6 to Apply for SMECO Scholarship
Each year, the Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative awards four $2,500 college scholarships to high school seniors who live in the co-op’s service area. The application deadline is Thursday, April 6, 2023.
New FDR Blvd. Roundabout Construction Begins
The St. Mary’s County Department of Public Works alerts motorists that beginning April 3, 2023, travel lanes in each direction of Buck Hewitt Road at the FDR Boulevard intersection in Lexington Park will be diverted to allow for construction of a new roundabout intersection.

SMECO Nominating Committee to Meet
Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative’s Board of Directors has appointed 10 members to the 2023 Nominating Committee scheduled to meet Wednesday, May 10. The committee will review candidate applications for the five board positions to be elected this year.
