Garden in Lights Returns to Annmarie
One of Southern Maryland’s most treasured holiday traditions is about to begin again. Garden in Lights at Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Art Center starts Dec. 1, 2017, and continues until Jan. 1, 2018.
Small Business Owners Present Services
A group of local contracting firms got the chance to present their services to potential public and private clients during a business procurement showcase in October, hosted by College of Southern Maryland’s Small Business Development Center, with help from the Maryland Department of Transportation and State Highway Administration. The event was held at the Business Service Center in Bowie.
Chinese Nationals Indicted for Hacking
US indicts three Chinese nationals for hacking into Moody’s Analytics, Siemens AG, and Trimble computer networks, alleging the hackers used email phishing scams and malware to try to steal business secrets.
Night of Engineering Offered at CSM
College of Southern Maryland is able to boast a number of partnerships in the community with businesses and organization. One of the most important partnerships will be highlighted on Dec. 6 during the Night of Engineering, co-sponsored by The Patuxent Partnership.
High School Seniors Can Apply for Scholarship
Four high school seniors will be chosen in the spring for college scholarships from Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative. The $1,500 scholarships are for the 2018-2019 academic year.
Navy Wants More Powerful Warships
The Navy is asking for proposals for multi-mission warships that would be more heavily armed — and slower — than the littoral combat ships. These new ships would be capable of shooting down airplanes, attacking other ships, and countering submarines.
Annmarie Maker’s Market Set Dec. 16
Annmarie Garden in Solomons will host an indoor holiday market featuring handmade and homemade goods from artisans and craftspeople from across the region. The market will be held Dec. 16.
CSM Honors Scholarship Recipients
College of Southern Maryland scholarship recipients and donors were honored at the 2017 CSM Foundation Scholarship Reception at the Physical Education Center on the La Plata Campus. Close to 300 students were awarded more than $400,000 in scholarships, and more will be awarded in January for the spring semester.
Search Ends For Sailors After C-2 Crash
The US Navy called off the search for three sailors missing in the western Pacific last week. The three remained missing after a C-2 Greyhound carrier onboard delivery aircraft carrying 11 crew and passengers crashed Wednesday while on the way to the carrier USS Ronald Reagan.
Somerville Honored by March of Dimes
Adrienne Somerville of the Naval Air Systems Command was recently honored at the March of Dimes’ 17th annual Heroines of Washington awards dinner. Ms. Somerville received the Public Sector Heroine Award.
