MetCom Reporting Sewer Overflows
The St. Mary’s County Metropolitan Commission is reporting sanitary sewer overflows at the Marlay Taylor Water Reclamation Facility and in Piney Point, Forrest Run, Cedar Cove, Villages of Leonardtown, Essex South, California Run, Pembrooke, and St. George Island.
Flooding, Downed Trees Prompt Road Closures
St. Mary’s County Department of Emergency Services urges citizens to stay at home and do not travel at this time. There are multiple road closures due to flooding throughout St. Mary’s.
Marines Halt All AAV Training in Wake of Fatal Accident
The Marine Corps will suspend all waterborne amphibious assault vehicle training until the cause of Thursday’s AAV accident is known. On July 30, 15 Marines and one sailor were participating in a training exercise off the coast of Southern California when the vehicle they were riding in, began to take on water and sank. One confirmed dead, eight others missing.
Storm Will Affect Some County Govt. Operations
Sandbags will be available from 3-8 p.m. Monday, August 3, at all six convenience centers (Charlotte Hall, Clements, Oakville, Ridge, St. Andrews, and Valley Lee) in St. Mary’s County. Limit of 10 per vehicle. County government also has announced changes to its operations on Tuesday, August 4.

St. Mary’s Celebrates Census Response Rate
As of July 27, the 2020 US Census self-response rate for St. Mary’s County was 66.2%. The nationwide self-response rate was 62.6%, while the state of Maryland’s rate was 66.6%, according to figures at 2020census.gov.
