Forrest Students Compete at State SkillsUSA Competition
Forty students from the Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center recently medaled at the 51st annual SkillsUSA Maryland State Championships. The contests that Forrest Center students competed in were as varied as the program offerings at the center.
Vets Can Prepare Own Online Memorials
VA planners expect to expand the Veterans Legacy Memorial platform by the end of the year. The project allows living veterans to prepare their own tribute pages with personal information about their time in the service and allows family members to update online memorials of deceased vets.
‘Tis the Season for Farmers Markets
St. Mary’s County is home to three county-sponsored farmers markets — The Barns at New Market, Home Grown Farm Market, and the California Farmers Market.
Memorial Day Schedule for St. Mary’s Govt.
All St. Mary’s County government administrative offices will be closed Monday, May 27, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Offices will resume normal operating schedules May 28. Great Mills Pool will be open 11am to 5pm. The St. Clement’s Island Museum, Piney Point Lighthouse Museum, Old Jail Museum, and Wicomico Shores Golf Course will be open.

The 2024 Healthy St. Mary’s Partnership annual meeting, which will be held September 26, provides an opportunity for participants to network, learn from public health experts, and receive updates on local health improvement efforts. HSMP is seeking sponsors for the event.
Garvey Center to Host Men’s Health Day
A Men’s Health Day event will be held 9am to 1pm Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the Garvey Senior Activity Center at 23630 Hayden Farm Lane in Leonardtown. Doors open at 8:30am. Preregistration is encouraged.
CSM VEX Robotics Competes on World Stage
The College of Southern Maryland Talon robotics team recently competed at the VexU Robotics World Championship in Dallas, TX. The Patuxent Partnership is a sponsor.
Nat’l Cemeteries Open Dawn to Dusk Memorial Weekend
The 155 national cemeteries managed by Veterans Affairs will be open from dawn to dusk throughout Memorial Day weekend, and more than 130 will hold ceremonies to mark the day of remembrance for those who died in service to the US. The VA invites all veterans, family members, survivors and the public to the ceremonies honoring heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Great Mills Pool to Open May 25
The Great Mills swimming pool will open Saturday, May 25, 2024. A Splash Bash Pool Party will be held May 26.
