VEX Robotics Competition Set at CSM
College of Southern Maryland will host the Robotics Senior Division VEX competition Feb. 4, 2017, with support from The Patuxent Partnership. The Senior Division uses the VEX Robotics Design System for its competition platform.
639 Candidates Walk at CSM Winter Commencement
Six-hundred thirty-nine candidates for degrees and certifications were recognized Jan. 19, 2017, at College of Southern Maryland’s 18th winter commencement at the La Plata Campus.

The Talons, the competitive robotics team sponsored by the College of Southern Maryland, pulled off an impressive finish at a VEX U College Robotics Skills Challenge on Jan. 6 at CSM’s La Plata Campus.
February Events at CSM
The College of Southern Maryland Children’s Theatre will present “A Wrinkle in Time” at 7 pm Feb. 3 and 2 and 7 pm Feb. 4 at CSM’s La Plata Campus. CSM’s Ward Virts Concert Series will feature pianist Michael Adcock at 3 pm Feb. 12 at CSM’s Prince Frederick Campus.
CSM Learning Center Earns Accreditation
The St. Charles Learning Center on the La Plata Campus of the College of Southern Maryland has received recognition and accreditation from the Maryland State Department of Education, showing that the CSM Learning Center meets major standards of excellence.
Community Bank Donation to CSM Supports Students
The College of Southern Maryland Foundation has received a $100,000 donation from Community Bank of the Chesapeake. The funds are part of a five-year pledge for a permanent endowment fund and an annual scholarship fund that supports both credit and workforce development students.

The head coach of College of Southern Maryland’s volleyball team, Ashley Wolfe, has been recognized by the Maryland Junior Athletic Conference as a Coach of the Year for 2016.
Plein Air Festival Earns $3,000 for Art Scholarship
As artists were capturing Southern Maryland scenes in the fall at the Solomons Plein Air Festival, presented by Avian, patrons were buying their favorites pieces of artwork. Proceeds from those sales have been given to six community organizations, including a $3,000 donation to the College of Southern Maryland Foundation for the Dennis Lake Smith Art Scholarship.
Reporter Roz Plater Is Speaker at Graduation
Winter commencement at the College of Southern Maryland is set for Jan. 19, 2017, at the La Plata Campus, and Roz Plater, an Emmy Award-winning journalist, will be the keynote speaker. Ms. Plater was most recently a freelance reporter for WJLA ABC 7 in Washington, DC.
