CSM Art Professor Receives Grant
College of Southern Maryland art professor Andrew Wodzianski has been awarded an artist fellowship grant for 2017 by the District of Columbia’s Commission for the Arts and Humanities.
CSM Students Conducting Pulse Survey
Student volunteers at the College of Southern Maryland are calling residents this week for the latest Pulse of Southern Maryland public opinion telephone poll. The students are making phone calls until April 6, 2017.
CSM Robotics Team Going to Worlds
The College of Southern Maryland’s competitive robotics team, the Talons, has qualified for the fourth year in a row for the VEX-U World Championships. After sweeping the March 10 tournament at Fairmont State University, the team won the Excellence Award and will travel to Kentucky on April 19 to 22 to compete in the world championship.
Benefits of Presidential Scholars Program Are Many
High-achieving students in Calvert County could qualify for an elite collegiate program right here in Southern Maryland. The deadline is April 7 to apply for the Presidential Scholars Program at the College of Southern Maryland’s Prince Frederick Campus.

Scholarship Gets Boost From a Birthday
When 8-year-old Evan Walsh Gurklis of Red Lion, Pa., said he could not wait to celebrate his birthday in November, he had a special purpose. Gurklis planned to invite teammates from his fall baseball league team and friends from his second-grade class. He asked his parents to host the party at a large sports complex near his home. But this kid’s plans had nothing to do with himself: they were about the Walsh Scholarship at College of Southern Maryland.
Conference Focuses on Women in STEM
The College of Southern Maryland has created an event that will expose women in their teens and older to a range of career opportunities in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). CSM’s Women + STEM Conference = Infinite Possibilities will be held from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm April 1 at the college’s La Plata Campus and focuses on women in STEM.
Mary Shasho Remembered Through CSM Scholarships
Two College of Southern Maryland scholarships have been created in memory of the late Mary Shasho, a local volunteer and enthusiastic supporter of all levels of Scouting in Southern Maryland. The scholarship has been established by Mrs. Shasho’s husband, local businessman Harry Shasho of Shasho Consulting.
CSM Chooses New President
Dr. Maureen Murphy has been selected as the fifth president of the College of Southern Maryland. The announcement was made by the CSM Board of Trustees this month.
