Calvert Chamber Gives $2K for Scholarships
The Calvert County Chamber of Commerce gave the College of Southern Maryland a $2,000 check recently to help pay for student scholarships. The Calvert Chamber made the presentation during the chamber’s annual holiday Business After Hours event hosted by CSM at its Prince Frederick Campus.

Camille Joie De Jesus, 19, of Bryans Road is a particularly recognizable person at the College of Southern Maryland’s La Plata Campus. She is all over campus, all the time. Her involvement in so many aspects of college life has landed her the President’s Cup.

Scholarship Gets Boost From a Birthday
When 8-year-old Evan Walsh Gurklis of Red Lion, Pa., said he could not wait to celebrate his birthday in November, he had a special purpose. Gurklis planned to invite teammates from his fall baseball league team and friends from his second-grade class. He asked his parents to host the party at a large sports complex near his home. But this kid’s plans had nothing to do with himself: they were about the Walsh Scholarship at College of Southern Maryland.
Community Bank Donation to CSM Supports Students
The College of Southern Maryland Foundation has received a $100,000 donation from Community Bank of the Chesapeake. The funds are part of a five-year pledge for a permanent endowment fund and an annual scholarship fund that supports both credit and workforce development students.
Plein Air Festival Earns $3,000 for Art Scholarship
As artists were capturing Southern Maryland scenes in the fall at the Solomons Plein Air Festival, presented by Avian, patrons were buying their favorites pieces of artwork. Proceeds from those sales have been given to six community organizations, including a $3,000 donation to the College of Southern Maryland Foundation for the Dennis Lake Smith Art Scholarship.
