Artsfest Has Fabulous Lineup of Artists, Musicians
Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Art Center in Solomons will present its annual juried arts festival, Artsfest ’17, on Sept. 16 and 17, from 10 am to 5 pm both days.

Congressional Art Contest Winners Announced
Lillian Bridges of Calvert County has been named the first-place winner of the 2017 Fifth District Congressional Art Competition, announced recently by Congressman Steny H. Hoyer. Ms. Bridges won for her mixed media piece, “A Happy Spring.”
County Appoints Jurisdictional Medical Director
A new jurisdictional medical director has been appointed by the St. Mary’s County commissioners to manage the quality of patient care that is provided by the county’s Emergency Medical Services Operational Program. Dr. Daniel Geary will start his duties as the JMD on Sept. 5.

VADM Sawyer to Lead 7th Fleet
VADM Phillip G. Sawyer, the new leader of the Navy’s troubled 7th Fleet, has arrived in Japan, replacing Joseph Aucoin, who was relieved last week after a second fatal collision involving one of his ships claimed the lives of 10 sailors.
