The One Maryland One Book for 2021 is “The Book of Delights,” a collection of short essays by poet Ross Gay that examines the many small delights in our lives that give us the resilience to weather some of life’s greatest storms.

DoD Tests Cheap Drone Busters
After soliciting whitepapers in May, the Joint Counter-Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Office and the Army’s Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office chose five solutions to go up against threat targets at Yuma Proving Ground. The five drone busters are Northrop Grumman’s XM1211 30mm Proximity Round, the Smash Hopper from Smart Shooter, Flex Force’s Agile Small Deflection Precision Stabilized Weapon System, IXI’s DroneKiller, and the DroneGun MKIII from Drone Shield.
Entries Sought for Peace Poster Contest
The Lexington Park Lions Club is looking for student artists to create entries for this year’s Peace Poster Contest.
Open House Set at Drayden Schoolhouse
The St. Mary’s County Museum Division, in partnership with the Unified Committee for Afro-American Contributions, will offer a free open house for visitors at the Drayden African American Schoolhouse, from 11 am to 2 pm. The next open house will be Oct. 2, 2021. This will be the final open house of the year.

Navy Gets First Block III Super Hornets
Boeing delivered the first two Block III F/A-18 Super Hornets to the US Navy this month. The first of 78 new Super Hornets was ferried to Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 23 at Naval Air Station Pax River for continued developmental testing.
