There will be something for everyone at the St. Mary’s Airport Open House from 10 am to 4 pm Oct. 7, 2017 — demonstrations and displays of airplanes and drones; STEM activities, robotics, a kids corner with balsa airplane races, food from Linda’s On the Go, and more.
Diversity Executive Director Hired at CSM
Dr. Carmen Phelps has been hired by the College of Southern Maryland as the new executive director of Institutional Equity and Diversity.
Vendors Sought for Bluegrass for Hospice
Bluegrass for Hospice-2017 is seeking vendors for this year’s event. The concert will be held Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, at the Flat Iron Farm in Great Mills, Maryland. Cobb Island Receives Assistance to Firefighters Grant
Cobb Island Volunteer Fire Department and EMS receive a $217,715 firefighter grant as Congressman Steny H. Hoyer moves, with bilateral support, to reauthorize and increase funding to the federal grant programs. Re-authorization details here.
Outpatient Lab Services Now Offered in Hospital
Beginning Monday, Oct. 2, outpatient laboratory services at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital will be moved into the main hospital. Check with your insurance carrier to see how this might impact you.

School Safety Efforts Honored
St. Mary’s Sheriff Tim Cameron and St. Mary’s Superintendent Scott Smith were awarded the first-ever School Safety Superintendent and Law Enforcement Executive of the Year Award for 2016/2017. The award was presented in recognition of their commitment to keep students and staff safe during the school year.
