Heron Systems the Big Dog in Aerial Dogfight Competition

An AI system developed by Heron Systems in St. Mary’s County beat one of the US Air Force’s top F-16 fighter pilots in DARPA’s simulated aerial dogfight competition. “Team Heron took out the real human Air Force F-16 Pilot 5-0 without taking any damage at all! Huge accomplishment for the team! What a day!”

NASA Plans 3-D Printing of Habitats on Other Planets

NASA uses 3-D printing to repair tools in space and now wants to use the technology to build habitats on other planets. The US Army deploys its Rapid Fabrication via Additive Manufacturing on the Battlefield, with five printers to get broken equipment ready for battle quicker. The current, fourth deployment of the $250,000 facility, is in South Korea.

Both the House and Senate are proposing $675B in defense spending. The House passed its version of the defense appropriations bill last week. Lawmakers will return after the holiday to reconcile their differences in the legislation.

Upgraded Tomahawk System Delivered to Fleet

The US Navy has delivered an upgraded Tactical Tomahawk Weapons Control System to the fleet. The Tomahawk Weapons System Program Office has maintained the system since 2004 with incremental updates, but to ensure future viability, software modernization was required.
