Navy Setting Stage for RIMPAC 2022

The US Navy is preparing for Rim of the Pacific 2022, the world’s largest maritime exercise, which will take place from June 29 to August 4 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. Twenty-six countries, 38 surface ships, four submarines, 170 aircraft, and approximately 25,000 personnel are expected to participate.

An AI system developed by Heron Systems in St. Mary’s County beat one of the US Air Force’s top F-16 fighter pilots in DARPA’s simulated aerial dogfight competition. “Team Heron took out the real human Air Force F-16 Pilot 5-0 without taking any damage at all! Huge accomplishment for the team! What a day!”

Defense Bill Includes Submarine Launched Nuclear Weapon

The Senate and House agreed on a $716 billion defense authorization bill which includes $65 million to develop a controversial new submarine-launched nuclear weapon, the Trident II D5 with a W76-2, aimed at deterring Russia.
