New Air Force Secretary Barbara Barrett was sworn in late last week. She is the 25th secretary of the service and the fourth woman to serve as the Air Force’s top civilian leader.

Older US Air Force jets — the A-10 Thunderbolt II and the F-15E Strike Eagle — are leading the air war against the Islamic State. Military fighter-attack jets, bombers, and drones have dropped more than 67,000 bombs since the 2014 start of Operation Inherent Resolve.

Naval Air Systems Command will commemorate the 69th anniversary of the Battle of Midway with events taking place at several different sites, including the Patuxent River Naval Air Station.
