MedStar Sessions Will Address Aphasia
Since June is National Aphasia Awareness Month, MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital will offer two sessions to help educate people about the communication disorder, which is estimated to affect approximately 2 million Americans. The sessions will be held June 27 and 29.
Hoyer Goes Overseas for NATO Talks
During the congressional district work period, House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer is traveling to Denmark, Belgium, Lithuania, and Estonia to reaffirm the importance of the country’s relationship with NATO member countries in light of Russia’s interference across Europe and as we confront the rising threat of terrorism.
Mud Day at Annmarie Set June 25
On June 25, 2017, Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Art Center will celebrate International Mud Day with a special muddy program from noon to 4 pm. Members can attend the event for free; cost is $5 for non-members; free for kids 4 and younger.
New CSM Tuition Rate Set
College of Southern Maryland students will see an increase in tuition for the fall 2017 semester. Tuition for residents of Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s counties will increase by $2 per credit to $125 per credit, a 1.6 percent increase.
Defense Experts Continue to Call for BRAC
In an open letter to House and Senate Armed Services committees defense experts write, “Congress should grant our military the authority to eliminate waste and ensure that vital defense resources flow to where they are most needed.”
Meeting’s Focus Transportation for Health Care
The Healthy St. Mary’s Partnership, supported by MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, is planning a Healthcare Transportation Stakeholder meeting for June 27, 2017. The meeting is being held in place of the regularly scheduled meeting of the Access to Care Action Team meeting that was canceled earlier in June.

At the corner of Great Mills Road and Shangri-La Drive/Willows Road, St. Mary’s Community Development Corp. sponsors Lexington Park’s first community-produced mural.
Navy ID’s Sailors Killed in Destroyer Collision
The Navy has identified the seven sailors who died when the destroyer USS Fitzgerald collided Saturday with a Filipino cargo ship off the coast of Japan. One of the sailors was from Maryland.
EAA Introduces “Young Eagles” to Flying
Every June, through its Young Eagles program, the local Experimental Aircraft Association takes youngsters flying, for free, out of St. Mary’s Airport.
