Group Exploring YMCA for St. Mary’s to Meet

County Gives Notice of Limited St. Mary’s Transit Route Operations

Illustration courtesy St. Mary’s Transit System During the week of November 18-22, 2019, the St. Mary’s Transit System (STS) will not operate the new Route 8 California/Great Mills public transportation service. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) paratransit program for persons with disabilities and the Statewide Specialized Transportation Assistance Program (SSTAP) will continue to operate on a regular schedule. On Friday, November 29, 2019, STS public transportation routes will operate on the Saturday schedule: Great Mills/California (11), Leonardtown Route Northbound and Southbound (12), and County Span Northbound and Southbound with the Southern Route (7), and the Northern Route (14+ 6)….

Get Ready for a Suessified Christmas Carol

A holiday treat is in store for theatergoers at Three Notch Theatre in Lexington Park. The family-friendly “A Seussified Christmas Carol” will be performed from November 29 to December 15, 2019.

Ceremony Commemorates Emancipation Day

A soil collection ceremony was held Nov. 1 in commemoration of lynching victim Benjamin Hance. Mr. Hance was said to have died in 1887 in St. Mary’s County. The Emancipation Day ceremony was one of healing and remembrance for the only documented lynching victim in the county.

Bells to Toll Nov. 11 to Commemorate WWII Armistice

St. Clement’s Island Museum and Piney Point Lighthouse Museum will join Bells of Peace at 11 am Nov. 11, 2019, to honor the 116,516 Americans, including the 27 St. Mary’s County natives, who died in World War I.
