Last week’s Tropical Storm Isaias damaged multiple St. Mary’s County roadways, causing closures, and necessitating detours. The county has provided a list of closures with tentative reopening timelines.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources awards $26.2 million to improve water quality, increase flood resiliency, and help grow the next generation of Maryland’s environmental stewards. Among the 120 statewide projects is the Piney Point Lighthouse & Museum Shoreline Resiliency Project.

The St. Mary’s County commissioners have entered into a Memorandum of Agreement with the YMCA of Chesapeake to conduct a feasibility study for a YMCA in St. Mary’s County. In addition, they approved a fundraising study.

As of July 27, the 2020 US Census self-response rate for St. Mary’s County was 66.2%. The nationwide self-response rate was 62.6%, while the state of Maryland’s rate was 66.6%, according to figures at 2020census.gov.

The first international variant of the V-22 Osprey aircraft flew from Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni to the Kisarazu Air Field on July 10, where the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force will now operate, train with, and maintain the aircraft.
