Exelon Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant will perform post-maintenance tests on two St. Mary’s County sirens. There will be a full-cycle test of alert and notification sirens No. 41 and No. 45 in St. Mary’s on Wednesday, Aug. 3.

Fire Department Gets Federal Grant
The Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department has just received a substantial grant. Congressman Steny H. Hoyer has announced that a $271,620 federal grant was awarded to department through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The department will use the money to buy new equipment such as self-contained breathing apparatus.
CSM Awards Student Leaders at Banquet
Student leaders at the College of Southern Maryland who go beyond the classroom by becoming involved in the college community were recognized for their impact at the annual Student Government Association banquet May 12 at Middleton Hall in Waldorf.
Navy Embraces 3D Printing Technology
The US Navy is an enthusiastic supporter of 3D printing technology. Naval Air Systems Command has completed some test flights featuring 3D printed critical components. In May, 3D-printed parts for a MV-22 Osprey were used. The Osprey, which was fitted with a partially 3D printed engine nacelle, performed exactly as expected.
Auditions Set for CSM Fall Theater Season
Auditions for the fall theater season at the College of Southern Maryland will be held from 6 to 8 pm Aug. 8 and 9, 2016, in the Fine Arts Center Theatre on the La Plata Campus. CSM is planning four in-house productions for the fall. Auditions are open to the public.
