Two local businesses have been recognized for their wellness efforts. In June, Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative and MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital were honored by Van Mitchell, secretary of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, for their excellent accomplishments in work-site health promotion.
Hewitt’s ‘Banquet Years’ Opens Kay Daugherty Gallery
Painter, sculptor, and printmaker Charlie Hewitt graduated from Great Mills High School and spent formative years in St. Mary’s County, MD. His work will be shown in the new Kay Daugherty Gallery at Annmarie Garden beginning Aug. 12. “The Banquet Years” runs through Sept. 25.

The US Air Force declared its first squadron of F-35As ready for battle last week. The JSF was declared operational by the Marine Corps in July 2015; and the Navy aims for February 2019. Register for Veterinary Assistant Class
Registration is now open for the College of Southern Maryland’s veterinary assistant program, and this 10-month training will get students on the path to a career in this fast-growing field. The program begins in August and is completed with five classes, taking less than a year.
