The reception for Visions of Verses — a show celebrating both written and physical art and the inspiration behind them — was attended by more than 75 art enthusiasts at the calvART Gallery in Prince Frederick on April 14. There are still a few days left to see the show, which runs through May 6.

College of Southern Maryland recognized 83 employees who have reached significant milestones in their years of service during the annual CSM Service Awards on March 16. Two of the employees reached 30 years and five marked 25; altogether, the ceremony awarded 1,035 years of service.

Poems Serve as Inspiration for Art Exhibit

Eleven poems written by College of Southern Maryland faculty and students and other local poets have served as the inspiration for a collection of paintings, jewelry, ceramic, and fused-glass pieces by calvART Gallery member artists. These poetry-inspired pieces will be on exhibit at the calvART Gallery Visions of Verses show in Prince Frederick April 11 to May 6.

Poet Brown Kicks Off Spring Connections

Fleda Brown, a former poet laureate of Delaware, will give a reading to kick off the spring portion of the College of Southern Maryland’s Connections Literary Series on March 2 at the Prince Frederick Campus.

CSM Alum Earns Fulbright Teaching Award

College of Southern Maryland alumnus Dillon Banis has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship. The award gives Banis, a CSM 2014 grad, the opportunity to work in Germany to assist English teachers while serving as a cultural ambassador for the US.

Author Archer Kicks Off CSM Connections

Author Michael Archer will kick off the College of Southern Maryland’s Spring Connections Series on Feb. 17 at the Leonardtown Campus. He will read from his works and speak about his experiences at 7:30 pm.

The Spring 2016 Connections literary magazine has been completed, and on May 6 several of the contributors will offer a special reading at 7:30 p.m. on the College of Southern Maryland La Plata campus in the Center for Business and Industry’s Dr. John M. Sine Conference Room (Room 103).
