CSM Hosts Forum on Opioid Addiction
Opioid addiction is a serious and growing concern. College of Southern Maryland’s Student Association at the Leonardtown Campus is hoping to educate the community and expand the dialogue about this problem by hosting a Community Heroin/Opioid Forum at 6 pm April 25. The forum will include a free screening of the documentary “Chasing the Dragon.”
Non-Traditional Student Excels at CSM
Benjamin Brown of Randle Cliff in Calvert County is 65, making him more than a generation older than the average 25-year-old College of Southern Maryland student.
Music Teacher’s Gift Dedicated at CSM
The College of Southern Maryland held the dedication of the Benny C. Morgan Memorial Piano and Recital Series on March 4 at the Leonardtown Campus. The event, which featured a performance by the Southern Maryland Chamber Ensemble, recognized longtime music teacher Benny Morgan and the generous donation of his Steinway piano to the college.
Veterans Can Learn About Small Business Programs
Veteran-owned small businesses sometimes have a different set of opportunities for business assistance. On April 18, Wynne Briscoe of the College of Southern Maryland Small Business Development Center will speak, along with other guest speakers, at the US Small Business Veterans Resource Day Open House.
Summer Scholars Get College Credit
Area rising high school juniors and seniors can get a taste of college over the summer through the new College of Southern Maryland Summer Scholars Program. Forward-thinking high school students can earn college credit while they take an in-depth look at an area of interest, including robotics, cybersecurity, and American music.
Agreement Signed With AFROTC Program
An agreement between the College of Southern Maryland and the University of Maryland, College Park now allows CSM students who are interested in becoming an officer in the US Air Force to sign up for the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps through UMD.
CSM Art Professor Receives Grant
College of Southern Maryland art professor Andrew Wodzianski has been awarded an artist fellowship grant for 2017 by the District of Columbia’s Commission for the Arts and Humanities.
CSM Students Conducting Pulse Survey
Student volunteers at the College of Southern Maryland are calling residents this week for the latest Pulse of Southern Maryland public opinion telephone poll. The students are making phone calls until April 6, 2017.
CSM Robotics Team Going to Worlds
The College of Southern Maryland’s competitive robotics team, the Talons, has qualified for the fourth year in a row for the VEX-U World Championships. After sweeping the March 10 tournament at Fairmont State University, the team won the Excellence Award and will travel to Kentucky on April 19 to 22 to compete in the world championship.
