Waterline Project Topic of MetCom Meeting
The St. Mary’s County Metropolitan Commission is gearing up for the proposed St. Clements Shores Water System Replacement Phase 1 Project No. 2101WR by scheduling a public meeting to notify and inform the community at 6:30 pm Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016. The meeting will be in MetCom’s main conference room at 23121 Camden Way in California, MD, and presenters will discuss replacement of the waterline system.

Smoking Cessation Classes Start Oct. 11
Get help to quit by attending free smoking cessation classes at the St. Mary’s County Health Department in Leonardtown, MD, from 6 to 7 pm each Tuesday starting Oct. 11, 2016. The program is supported by MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital and a grant from the Maryland Cigarette Restitution Fund.
MD Fracking Rules Proposed
Maryland’s fracking ban expires in October 2017, legislative opponents will try to prohibit the practice altogether before the ban expires, but the Maryland Department of the Environment has rolled out fracking regs which would ban drilling in three watersheds in Western Maryland and require extensive safeguards around drilling sites.

Walden Raises Awareness of Drug Overdoses
In early September, Walden invited members of the community to participate in International Overdose Awareness Day by walking a complicated maze, encouraging inner reflection and peace. Navy Cmdr. James Carver relieves Marine Lt. Col. Kevin Erker as commanding officer of Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 23 after serving as the squadron’s chief test pilot since October 2014. Cmdr. Johannes Jolly assumed duties as VX-23’s chief test pilot.
