Chili, Cars, Scarecrows, and More at Annmarie

Chili

It’s going to be an exciting, creative weekend at Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Art Center, starting Saturday, Oct. 1, with the Chili in the Garden Classic Car Show, Chili Cook-off, and Maker’s Market, and then wrapping up Sunday with Cardboard Day.

Saturday’s events will be going on from 9 am to 3 pm and will be the perfect way to celebrate the arrival of fall. The Chili Cook Off is presented in conjunction with the Chili Appreciation Society International, and will include a public chili tasting, a classic car show, beer, and wine. Enjoy live music by the rockabilly band the Colliders, starting at 11 am.

While at the park, check out the craft market, scarecrow exhibit, and other awesome family activities. Awards will be presented for the best chili and the hottest cars. Classic car lovers can cruise the car show, talk to car owners and enthusiasts, and take pictures of their favorites amidst the backdrop of beautiful Annmarie Garden.

The main attraction of Chili in the Garden are the cooks from the Chili Appreciation Society who set up their kitchens on site and compete for top chili honors, including the People’s Choice Awards. Stop by and sample all the recipes by purchasing tasting kits, $5 for five tastes or $12 for 15 tastes. As part of the Red Hot Chili Potters Fundraiser, guests can buy a handmade ceramic bowl, which comes with five tasting cups, for $20 each. Proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward the purchase of new equipment for the Annmarie Garden clay studio.

The Maker’s Market will be all set up and features handmade, homemade, and homegrown products. Shop for something special from regular favorites and new vendors each month.

Saturday also marks the opening of the new outdoor exhibit, Scarecrows: Guardians of the Garden, featuring fun and funky handmade scarecrows and garden art.

Members of Annmarie Garden are admitted to the Saturday events free. Admission is $3 for non-members and free for children 5 and younger. Parking is free. No pets, please.
