The Maryland Insurance Administration, a state regulatory agency, will offer a variety of consumer materials on all types of insurance products from annuities to title insurance and health, auto, and homeowners insurance. Trained staff will be available in Charles and St. Mary’s counties in July to answer consumer questions.
Chautauqua Brings Living History to CSM
The College of Southern Maryland will host the 2018 Chautauqua Series on July 10, 11, and 12, beginning at 6:45 each evening at the CSM Fine Arts Building theater at 8730 Mitchell Road in La Plata. The presentations are free.
Student Reaps Benefits of STEM Education
Kristina Babinski, 29, of Pomfret graduated in May with an associate degree in electrical engineering. The real benefit of her STEM Education at College of Southern Maryland, however, is the professional experience she gained last summer interning with the University of Maryland’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems Test Site along with two other CSM engineering students.

Presidential Scholar Finds Leadership Opportunities
When she was about to graduate Patuxent High School, Oluwaseyi Kintunde had no plans to become a Presidential Scholar or attend College of Southern Maryland. Her plan was to leave the area for a four-year school and play on the university’s volleyball team. However, a fall at the Senior Night volleyball game changed her plans.
Historic Preservation Group Honors Hospital
MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown has been recognized for its Historic Preservation efforts. The hospital’s “Reflections,” an exhibit of historical artifacts that are related to the hospital, has been honored by the St. Mary’s County Historic Preservation Commission for its work to keep and highlight the 106-year history of the nonprofit medical facility.
July 4 Closings
All campuses of the College of Southern Maryland will be closed, July 4. All St. Mary’s County government administrative offices also will be closed July 4. All offices will be open for regular business hours on Tuesday, July 3, and Thursday, July 5, 2018.
