Nearly 400-Yr.-Old Remains Found at HSMC Dig Site
The Historic St. Mary’s City Department of Research and Collections uncovered the human remains of a young European man, believed to have been buried in the late 1630s. The discovery might be one of the oldest colonial burials found in Maryland.
New Tree-Planting Incentive Underway
Maryland has pledged to plant 5 million trees by 2031. To help reach that goal, the Maryland Department of Agriculture has a new tree-planting bonus for farmers and landowners who install qualifying conservation practices financed through a state cost-share program.
State Fallfish Record Has Been Broken
For the second time in a month, the state record for fallfish has been broken. Bryson Meyers of Oakland has been recognized by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources as a new state record holder for fallfish – Semotilus corporalis — in the state’s nontidal division.
Pax Firefighter Buried Today
Naval District Washington Firefighter Brice C. Trossbach died fighting a house fire in Leonardtown on June 27. His services will be streamed live this morning at 10am. Expect traffic delays around and on NAS Pax River through the 12:30 to 2pm funeral procession.
