Student Reaps Benefits of STEM Education
Kristina Babinski, 29, of Pomfret graduated in May with an associate degree in electrical engineering. The real benefit of her STEM Education at College of Southern Maryland, however, is the professional experience she gained last summer interning with the University of Maryland’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems Test Site along with two other CSM engineering students.

Presidential Scholar Finds Leadership Opportunities
When she was about to graduate Patuxent High School, Oluwaseyi Kintunde had no plans to become a Presidential Scholar or attend College of Southern Maryland. Her plan was to leave the area for a four-year school and play on the university’s volleyball team. However, a fall at the Senior Night volleyball game changed her plans.
Historic Preservation Group Honors Hospital
MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown has been recognized for its Historic Preservation efforts. The hospital’s “Reflections,” an exhibit of historical artifacts that are related to the hospital, has been honored by the St. Mary’s County Historic Preservation Commission for its work to keep and highlight the 106-year history of the nonprofit medical facility.
Hoyer Co-Hosts Roundtable on Racial Equality
Congressman Steny H. Hoyer and Sen. Ben Cardin led the Maryland congressional delegation in a roundtable discussion June 14, 2018, with experts from the Maryland Center on Economic Policy and Associated Black Charities to talk about potential federal policies that could help close the growing racial wealth gap in Maryland and across the country.
High School Seniors Receive SMECO Scholarships
Four high school seniors have been awarded scholarships by Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative for 2018. The SMECO Scholarships are $1,500 each.
