With 13 burglaries and two robberies, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is adding more uniformed officers and plain-clothed surveillance personnel in Lexington Park. The department is also looking for help from the community to locate what they believe are as many as half a dozen perpetrators.

Maryland’s first sheriff’s office recently honored Maryland’s first African-American sheriff. On Feb. 22, 2018, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office honored former sheriff Joseph Lee Somerville Sr., the first African-American to be elected sheriff in the state.
