Donations Made to County Museums

The St. Mary’s County Museum Division has taken possession of a number of historically significant photos, documents, and objects this year. Among the donations are a model clamming boat and boat-building tools. These items are planned for an exhibit at the Piney Point Lighthouse Museum & Historic Park.

Smithsonian Museum Day at St. Clement’s, Piney Point

St. Clement’s Island Museum in Colton’s Point and Piney Point Lighthouse Museum & Historic Park in Piney Point will open their doors free of charge to all Museum Day ticketholders from 10 am to 5 pm Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, as part of Smithsonian magazine’s 14th annual Museum Day.

Fuel Leak Contained Near Pax River NAS

A civilian watercraft in the Patuxent River was leaking fuel Aug. 28, 2018, and staff from Naval Air Station Patuxent River saw the leak and began working to contain it, then successfully turned over containment and cleanup efforts for the partially submerged civilian watercraft to the US Coast Guard two days later.
