SMECO Raises Funds for Wounded Warriors

SMECO employees held two fund raising events and donated $36,470 to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) is offering four $1,500 college scholarships for the 2015-2016 school year. High school students are eligible to apply if they live with parents or guardians who are SMECO customer-members. Seniors must be enrolled or plan to enroll full-time in an accredited college, university, or trade school. The deadline for students to apply for college scholarships is Friday, March 6, 2015.

SMECO Donates CFLs to Food Bank

On Nov. 6, SMECO donated 30,000 CFLs to the Southern Maryland Food Bank. The CFLs will help Southern Maryland families facing economic hardship to reduce their energy costs so they can free up limited resources for other necessities.

SMECO Named Utility of the Year

The Solar Electric Power Assoc. named the SMECO the as Electric Cooperative Utility of the Year.

Southern Maryland Reliability Project Completed

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative completed its Southern Maryland Reliability Project on Nov. 3 when it energized the under-river portion of the 230,000-volt line that creates a transmission loop through the cooperative’s service area.

SMECO 75 Bike Ride Benefits Wounded Warrior Project

Profits from the Co-op’s annual bike ride are donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. Last year, SMECO employees raised $35,760 through the bike ride and a golf tournament.
