Slater Announces Retirement as SMECO CEO
Austin J. Slater Jr., president and CEO of the Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative, announced his retirement Oct. 15 at the co-op’s monthly board meeting.
SMECO Awards Outstanding Teachers
Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative has chosen 20 educators from Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s counties as Outstanding Teachers because of their leadership in the fields of mathematics, science, technology, and engineering.
Lower Electric Rates Coming for SMECO Customers
Customer-members of Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative will be seeing lower electric rates. SMECO received approval by the Maryland Public Service Commission on Dec. 28, 2017, to reduce the Distribution Service charges for its customers.
SMECO, CSM Team Up for Pre-Apprenticeship Program
Each time Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative announces a training class for apprentice linemen, hundreds of applications come in. However, many of the applicants lack the basic skills they need to even apply. To combat this problem, SMECO has teamed up with College of Southern Maryland to create a pre-apprenticeship program.
