Sheriff Warns of ‘Spoofing’ Phone Scam
St. Mary’s County residents are being warned about recent phone scams in which callers impersonate deputies and demand money for supposed warrants. The scammers use caller ID spoofing to make it appear that the calls are coming from the county sheriff’s office.
Phone Scam Targeting SMECO Customers
Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative was recently contacted by about 20 customer-members who received phone calls from scammers targeting businesses in the area.
Watch Out for IRS Scammers
St. Mary’s County officials are warning the public to beware phone scammers who are calling homes and saying they are “IRS Agents.”
