Cyclists Can Register for Benefit Ride
Cyclists can now register for the Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative’s sixth annual benefit ride, the SMECO 75 Bike Ride.
Calvert Schools Rewarded for Saving Power
Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative rewards its customer-members for finding ways to consume less power. Most recently, SMECO and energy management company Comverge/CPower returned bill credits and rebates that totaled nearly $100,000 to Calvert County public school system.
Students Show Off Computer Skills
The 28th annual Southern Maryland High School Computer Bowl was held March 4. Sponsored by Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative, the competition underscores the importance and value of computer skills for students who plan to become proficient in technical and industrial fields.

SMECO Plans Smart Meters Open House
Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative customer-members who would like to learn more about smart meters are invited to an open house Feb. 23 at SMECO’s Hughesville Office at 15035 Burnt Store Road. The open house will be held from 4 to 7 pm.
Slater Recognized by National Safety Council
Austin J. Slater, president and CEO of Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative, has been recognized by the National Safety Council as a CEO Who “Gets It” for 2017. The NSC finds safety leaders each year and recognizes their actions because they demonstrate a personal commitment of first creating and then sustaining a culture of health and safety in the workplace.
Students Show Off Math Skills
The 23rd annual regional MATHCOUNTS competition Feb. 4 challenged more than 230 students from 24 schools throughout Southern Maryland to test their math skills.
