The Leapfrog Group has again awarded top marks to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in its Spring 2019 Hospital Safety Grade survey. The hospital safety grade of “A” recognizes the hospital’s superior efforts in protecting patients from harm and meeting the highest safety standards in the US.
Hospital Gala Raises Nearly $135,000 for Scholarships
The MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital 2018 Gala offered guests a magical evening down the rabbit hole inspired by “Alice in Wonderland.” Sponsored by the hospital and the family of Francis Taylor Sr., the annual black-tie affair Nov. 16 was held at the Hollywood Social Hall.

MedStar Names Auxilian of the Year
MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown has named volunteer Mary Hart the 2018 Fayrene Mattingly Auxilian of the Year. Ms. Hart is being honored for her incredible spirit, sense of responsibility, and her selflessness.
MedStar Celebrates Doctors’ Day
Medical staff at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital were honored with a celebration of National Doctors’ Day in March. MedStar thanked its dedicated staff with a special breakfast and presentation March 29, 2018, celebrating the hospital’s many physicians, physician’s assistants, and certified nurse practitioners.
Hospital Foundation Gala Raises $150,000
“Viva! A Night in Old Havana” brought out hundreds of guests and raised $150,000 for the foundation at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital. The 29th annual St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation Gala was held in November and will help fund health care scholarships, capital projects, and new equipment.
Best Year Yet for Bluegrass for Hospice
This year’s Bluegrass for Hospice in October, hosted at Bubby Knott’s Flat Iron Farm in Great Mills, raised $38,298.91.
In the eight years the bluegrass concert has been in existence, 2016 was the best yet, said Jay Armsworthy, Bluegrass for Hospice event coordinator and promoter. The event has raised $192,000 in total.
Medstar Honors D’Esposito for Volunteer Work
MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital named Kay D’Esposito the 2016 Fayrene Mattingly Auxilian of the Year during its spring luncheon Friday, April 8. The luncheon also commemorated the auxiliary’s 100th year serving the hospital.
