Museums to Host Holiday Events, Exhibits
Special events and exhibits are being planned for the 2025 holiday season at Piney Point Lighthouse Museum, St. Clement’s Island Museum, and the Old Jail Museum.
Build a Lighthouse, Brick by Brick
The Friends of St. Clement’s Island & Piney Point Museums are sponsoring a competition in honor of the oldest lighthouse on the Potomac River. For the challenge, participants will create a lighthouse model using interlocking building bricks and bring it to the Piney Point museum for display and judging.
Bells of Peace Will Ring Nov. 11
The bells at St. Clement’s Island Museum and Piney Point Lighthouse Museum will toll at 11am November 11, 2025, to honor the 116,516 Americans, including the 27 St. Mary’s County natives, who died in World War I.
St. Clement’s Extends Water Taxi Service to Island
The water taxi service offered at St. Clement’s Island Museum will operate an extended season in November 2025, while the main museum building is being reconstructed and temporarily closed to the public.
Kids Can Enjoy 2nd Saturday Museum Activities
All ages are invited to enjoy educational activities while visiting the St. Clement’s Island or the Piney Point Lighthouse museums on the second Saturday of the month throughout the year.
A Day of Family Fun @ Piney Point
Enjoy a day of family fun along the Potomac River at the Piney Point Lighthouse with live music, food, vendors, displays, and a variety of kids and family activities from 10am to 4pm September 13, 2025. Admission is free.
St. Mary’s Govt. Labor Day Operations
All St. Mary’s County government administrative offices will be closed Monday, September 1, 2025, in observance of Labor Day. Offices will resume normal operating schedules September 2.
Second Saturday Museum Activities
All ages are invited to enjoy educational activities while visiting the Piney Point Lighthouse or the St. Clement’s Island museums on the second Saturday of the month throughout the year.
Natl. Lighthouse Weekend @ Piney Point
National Lighthouse Weekend will be celebrated at the Piney Point Lighthouse Museum on August 2 and 3, 2025. Free admission.
Junior Historian Program at Piney Point
A Junior Historian program at the Piney Point Lighthouse Museum, designed for children 7 to 10, combines outdoor exploration with hands-on history lessons. The program will run from 9am to noon July 28 to 31, 2025.
