Washington, Cullison to Be Honored at Women’s History Banquet
The St. Mary’s County Commission for women will hold its annual Women’s History Month event on March 23, 2024, at the University System of Maryland at Southern Maryland. Doors open at 10:30am. The annual event celebrates and recognizes the accomplishments of women and girls in the county.
Houthi Rebels Sink Vessel, Kill Two Mariners
Yemen’s Houthi rebel attacks forced the abandonment of a commercial ship this week and killed two crew members in the process. They sunk their first vessel last week. These are the first fatalities since the rebels’ campaign of assaults in the Red Sea began in October, and the first vessel to be completely destroyed.
Students to Compete in History Contest
St. Mary’s County History Day on March 16 will be sponsored by Historic Sotterley, in partnership with St. Mary’s County Library and Maryland Humanities. The event will be held from 9am to 3pm in Leonardtown.

MyCoast Data Shows Impact of January Flooding in MD
On Jan. 9, 2024, Maryland was hit by a storm that brought intense rain, strong winds, and high tides. It resulted in the most active week yet for the MyCoast MD app. The storm brought in about 400 new users for MyCoast, along with 248 reports of flooding.
