In 2017, the SMECO annual meeting will be a simple business meeting, and election of board members and bylaw changes will be voted on by mail.
Students Awarded Bay Business Group Scholarship
Two College of Southern Maryland business students — Josh Griffith of Owings and Cayla Chase of Lusby — are the first recipients of a new scholarship established by Bay Business Group and the CSM Foundation.
Calvert Schools Rewarded for Saving Power
Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative rewards its customer-members for finding ways to consume less power. Most recently, SMECO and energy management company Comverge/CPower returned bill credits and rebates that totaled nearly $100,000 to Calvert County public school system.
Dominion Cove Point Works to Recruit at CSM
The Dominion Cove Point LNG Terminal in Lusby needs employees, and College of Southern Maryland students need jobs. A recruiting event Feb. 16 at the Leonardtown Campus brought those two needs together.
Register for the Job Fair on March 28
From students working on higher education to former students who have already earned their degrees, employers will find a multitude of potential employees at the Tri-County Job and Career Fair on March 28, 2017, at the College of Southern Maryland La Plata Campus. Employers who want to participate in the job fair can register until March 10 on the CSM website.

There are several things to consider if you are unsure of the process of choosing the right panels and having them installed.
Slater Recognized by National Safety Council
Austin J. Slater, president and CEO of Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative, has been recognized by the National Safety Council as a CEO Who “Gets It” for 2017. The NSC finds safety leaders each year and recognizes their actions because they demonstrate a personal commitment of first creating and then sustaining a culture of health and safety in the workplace.
Smart Meters Topic of SMECO Open Houses
Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative customer-members who would like to learn more about SMECO’s smart meters are invited to stop by any of the open houses that are planned. The first open house will be held from 4 to 7 pm Jan. 26, 2017, at the Calvert Library at 850 Costley Way in Prince Frederick.
CSM Gets Big Rebate After Light Fixture Changes
Making some energy-saving changes on campus garnered a big payout for the College of Southern Maryland. CSM received a $133,000 rebate from Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative’s Business Solutions program after the college completed retrofit lighting projects in buildings at the La Plata, Prince Frederick, and Leonardtown campuses.
