At SMECO, Getting Smarter Together With Smart Meters
Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative installed smart meters in Golden Beach area of St. Mary’s County, MD. The new digital electronic meter is capable of two-way communications between SMECO and the meter, which enables SMECO to offer a number of benefits, including more detailed billing information and the ability to respond to outages more quickly and effectively.

Maryland offers programs to help people pay their electric bills. SMECO will hold an Energy Assistance Fair on July 13, 2016.
Builders Honored for Their Energy-Efficient Homes
Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative recognized local companies at a ceremony. The awards event highlighted the achievements of participating builders and individuals for their outstanding accomplishments in bringing Energy Star-certified homes to Southern Maryland last year.
Four Seniors Awarded Scholarships
Since 1993, SMECO has awarded scholarships each year to seniors in the cooperative’s service area, for a total of 96 students. Students Alexandra Bryant, Simran Kaur, Maria Karisma Magsakay and De’ja McCleary each will receive a $1,500 college scholarship.
Region’s Math Champs Compete
Southern Maryland’s Math Champs competed recently in the SMECO Math Challenge, with students competing from private and public elementary schools.
