Grateful Veteran Says Thank You to Donors
Scott Teed has already worn many hats in his life. The 43-year-old Lexington Park resident has been a sailor, a technician, a parent, a veteran, and now a student. Mr. Teed is now pursing two associate degrees at College of Southern Maryland: one in electrical engineering and one in math and physical sciences.
Smith Heads CSM Human Resources
Ivan Smith of La Plata has been named as the new associate vice president of human resources and payroll at the College of Southern Maryland.
Veterans Honored at Annual Breakfast
John O’Connor, St. Mary’s County commissioner, did not need to explain a whole lot to his audience at the annual veterans breakfast at the College of Southern Maryland. He served in the US Army and when he talked about the bond shared among people in the service, the breakfast attendees knew exactly what he meant.
26 Earn Diplomas in Adult Ed Program
The College of Southern Maryland’s Adult Education Program recognized 26 students Nov. 2 who earned their high school diplomas through the program.
CSM’s Dunkle Appointed to Trustees Group
Margaret Dunkle of Port Republic, a College of Southern Maryland trustee, has been appointed to the Association of Community College Trustees Public Policy and Advocacy Committee for the coming year.
CSM Honors Scholarship Recipients
College of Southern Maryland scholarship recipients and donors were honored at the 2017 CSM Foundation Scholarship Reception at the Physical Education Center on the La Plata Campus. Close to 300 students were awarded more than $400,000 in scholarships, and more will be awarded in January for the spring semester.
Innovation Projects Honored at CSM
College of Southern Maryland professor Michelle Simpson and associate professor Dr. Cicero Fain III were honored for their innovation project, “The Integration of Charles County Schools, 1965-1968: An Oral History Project.”
CSM Hosts Communication Conference
College of Southern Maryland recently hosted the state conference of the Maryland Communication Association at CSM’s Prince Frederick Campus.
CSM Eligible for $1 Million Aspen Prize
Excellence has become expected at College of Southern Maryland. The college has been named as one of 150 community colleges in the nation that are eligible to compete for the 2019 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, the country’s signature recognition of high achievement and performance in US community colleges.
