Golf Classic Raises Money for Scholarships, Athletics
Sponsorships and in-kind donations meant big money raised at the College of Southern Maryland Foundation’s 25th Annual Golf Classic. The tournament was held at Swan Point Yacht & Country Club on Aug. 18, 2016, and raised $73,687 for the foundation’s initiatives, such as athletics and student scholarships for credit and workforce development programs.
Veterans Resource Day Set Nov. 9
Finding just the right information for veterans can be difficult, but a one-stop shop can fix that. On Nov. 9, 2016, at the College of Southern Maryland Leonardtown Campus will host a Veterans Resource Day in Building A at 22950 Hollywood Road.
New Members on CSM Foundation Board
Seven new members have been announced on the board of directors of the College of Southern Maryland Foundation. James Di Misa, Dixie Miller, Lisa Oliver, Dr. Stephen Peters, Gregory S. “Trey” Proctor III, Dr. Ila Shah, and Harry Shasho have been appointed to the board to serve five-year terms.
Robotics Team Wins Startup MD Prize
The College of Southern Maryland Talons robotics team took a trip to Indian Head to demonstrate their robot at the Startup Maryland STRT1UP road show and walked away with a $500 prize.
‘#thedronelife’ Featured at CSM Gallery
Sculptor Dominic Sansone is the featured artist in the College of Southern Maryland’s latest exhibition at the Tony Hungerford Memorial Art Gallery on the La Plata Campus. The exhibition will run through Nov. 3.
Poet Benjamin Will Read at CSM Connections
The College of Southern Maryland’s Connections Literary Series will present a reading by poet Rick Benjamin. He will read from his work at 7:30 pm Nov. 4, 2016, at the Leonardtown Campus in Building A, Auditorium, 22950 Hollywood Road in Leonardtown.
CSM Electronic Labs Get Boost From Dominion
CSM labs already acclaimed – “Some employers already have made offers to our students,” says the college’s Business and Technology chair – now are upping their game with a $45,000 grant for equipment and materials from Dominion Foundation.
Connections Seeks Submissions
Submissions to Connections magazine’s upcoming edition is Oct. 31, 2016. Connections is also bringing poet Rick Benjamin to the CSM Leonardtown Campus Nov. 4 to celebrate poetry as a community connector.
Cangelosi Eyes Certified Tutor Trainer Status
Laurie Cangelosi, a lead program coordinator at the College of Southern Maryland, received a 2016 Maurice Erly Professional Development Award from the Educational Systems Federal Credit Union. She will train to be a nationally certified tutor trainer and put the college on course for its own nationally certified tutor program.
Cangelosi learned this summer that she has been selected to receive a 2016 Maurice Erly Professional Development Award from the Educational Systems Federal Credit Union.
Recital Series Will Honor Benny Morgan
The College of Southern Maryland is posthumously honoring music educator Benny C. Morgan with a recital series. The first concert is Oct. 15, 2016, at the Leonardtown Campus.
