Commissioners’ 2026 Public Forum Schedule
The St. Mary’s County commissioners will hold four public forums in 2026: January 13, May 5, July 28, and November 17.
Hoyer: $4.6M in Community Project Funding for 5th District
Funds for five projects in Maryland’s Fifth District have been secured by Rep. Steny H. Hoyer. The congressman announced that $4,697,000 in Community Project Funding was included in the fiscal 2026 Appropriations Minibus.

St. Mary’s County Library shared results from its 2025 Customer Satisfaction Survey. The results reflect high levels of community trust, satisfaction, and engagement. Comments and answers demonstrated that customers continue to view the library as an essential and well-loved public service.

US Attacks Venezuela, Captures Maduro
The US launched an assault over the weekend on the Venezuelan capital of Caracas that took leader Nicolas Maduro and his wife into American custody and has set the stage for the US to run the South American nation. The military operation, dubbed Absolute Resolve, involved more than 150 aircraft — bombers, fighters, intelligence, reconnaissance, surveillance, and rotary wing.
Maryland Deer Harvest Decreased in 2025
Maryland hunters reported harvesting 27,620 deer during the two-week firearm season from November 29 through December 13.
Christmas Tree Disposal Available Until Jan. 31
St. Mary’s County residents may drop off undecorated Christmas trees at the St. Mary’s Landfill and convenience centers, free of charge, through January 31, 2026.
