Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative is offering four $2,500 scholarships to local high school students who excel in their endeavors and show promise in their chosen field of study.

Do you know an outstanding math, science, or STEM teacher? Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative wants to hear about them. Each year, SMECO works with local school systems to present Outstanding Teacher awards to dedicated educators. Nominate a teacher by January 23, 2026.
SMECO: Legislative Energy Relief Is Coming
Many residential Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative members saw a credit on their August bills, thanks to the Legislative Energy Relief Refund, a statewide effort to help offset high energy costs. The refund was created through Maryland HB 1035. The winter 2026 credit will be applied to eligible January bills.

SMECO Tallies Votes for Annual Meeting
Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative held its Annual Meeting on Aug. 29, 2018, at co-op headquarters in Hughesville. The board of directors election was conducted by mail before the meeting, yielding about 6,000 votes.
