Interpretive Center Open House & Lecture Planned
A special two-part event highlighting the contributions of St. Mary’s County’s US Colored Troops and Medal of Honor recipients will be held 10am to 4pm September 26, 2023, in Lexington Park.
Tropical Storm Warning Issued; Closings Announced
County residents should be aware of potentially destructive weather associated with the landfall of a tropical storm this weekend. Due to anticipated weather impacts from Tropical Storm Ophelia, St. Mary’s County announces several closings.
Community Conversations Aim to Bring Citizens Together
The Community Mediation Center has planned “Community Conversations,” a series of monthly community dialogs where people of all kinds from throughout St. Mary’s County can discuss topics of interest and concern. Next up will be a conversation at the US Colored Troops Interpretive Center at the Lexington Manor Passive Park on September 24, 2023.
Un-Piloted F35B Lost and Found
The crash over the weekend in South Carolina of the $100M aircraft leaves questions about why the pilot ejected and how the F35 flew pilotless for 60 miles before crashing. One answer might be that only the Marine’s variant of the F35 has an auto-eject function on its ejection seat.
Self-Service Sandbags Available for Residents
St. Mary’s County will offer self-service sandbags from noon to 5pm today, Friday, September 22, 2023, for citizens wishing to prepare for potential flooding. Sandbags are not pre-filled and are limited to between 10 and 25 sandbags per person while supplies last.
Hoyer Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated September 15 – October 15. Congressman Steny H. Hoyer reflected on Hispanic Americans’ many contributions to the US.
Learn About Naval Internship Programs
The Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program will accept applications until November 1, 2023, for the 2024 program. The Patuxent Partnership is helping to publicize programs that place college and high school students in Department of Navy laboratories where they take part in real naval research for 10 weeks during the summer.
