Opioid Learning Series Continues in March
Several organizations will present a six-part series of events focusing on the opioid epidemic. Known as the Opioid Learning Series, sponsors for the series include the St. Mary’s County Health Department, St. Mary’s County Library, Walden Behavioral Health, and MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital.
Hoyer Pleased With Technology Act

Scott Teed has already worn many hats in his life. The 43-year-old Lexington Park resident has been a sailor, a technician, a parent, a veteran, and now a student. Mr. Teed is now pursing two associate degrees at College of Southern Maryland: one in electrical engineering and one in math and physical sciences.
SMECO 75 Funds Donated to Local Groups
Employees of Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative have a lot to be proud of. Through two fund-raising efforts like the SMECO 75 Bike Ride and a golf tournament, SMECO staffers have recently donated $47,642 to non-profit organizations that help the environment in Southern Maryland.

Ready4Life Helps Opportunity Youth
An initiative has been launched in Southern Maryland designed to help young people who are not in school or employed. Ready4Life is a website that connects 16- to 24-year-olds with services to enhance the knowledge and skills of the group called Opportunity Youth — those who might need an extra boost in life.
Hoyer Speaks at Hackathon
House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer spoke during the third annual congressional Hackathon, which he co-hosted with House Leader Kevin McCarthy to create a collaborative effort between digital innovators with members and staff to discuss using new ways to use technology to make Congress more open and transparent.
