Archaeologists to Share Discoveries at Newtowne

Archaeologists Aaron Levinthal and Sarah Janesko will share discoveries from the homes of the enslaved community that lived on the Jesuit’s Newtowne Plantation between the late 17th century through the mid-19th century.

History Lecture Series Continues June 2

Historically Speaking will be presented Thursday, June 2, 2022, at St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s Daugherty-Palmer Commons. The topic will be “Plantation as Mission: American Indians, Enslaved Africans, and Jesuit Missionaries in Maryland.” The lecture is a joint undertaking of the St. Mary’s County Historical Society and the Center for the Study of Democracy at St Mary’s College.

Town to Host First-Ever Moll Dyer Day

The St. Mary’s County Historical Society and the Town of Leonardtown will hold the first Moll Dyer Day on February 26. The legend of Moll Dyer and the alleged curse she placed on local residents has persisted for centuries.
