MedStar Weighs in on Vape Debate
As the e-cigarette market heats up, many people believe that vaping is less dangerous than actual cigarettes. However, the vape debate has sparked new interest around the dangers of the use of tobacco products and the harmful effects of nicotine. MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown is hoping to educate the public about the potential problems of the nearly 500 brands and 7,700 flavors of e-cigarettes.
Healthy Partnership Annual Meeting Set for September

Historic Preservation Group Honors Hospital
MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown has been recognized for its Historic Preservation efforts. The hospital’s “Reflections,” an exhibit of historical artifacts that are related to the hospital, has been honored by the St. Mary’s County Historic Preservation Commission for its work to keep and highlight the 106-year history of the nonprofit medical facility.
Survey Needs Spanish-Speaking Volunteers
The Healthy St. Mary’s Partnership’s Access to Care Action Team has been working to develop a Hispanic Needs Survey to better assess the needs of the local Hispanic community. The Hispanic Outreach Team is looking for Spanish-speaking volunteers for a community canvassing event.
Hospital Hosting Opioid Lecture
MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital and the St. Mary’s County Health Department will present a lecture June 27 by Michael V. Pantalon, “Encouraging Opioid Use Disorder Treatment.”
