Talking about end-of-life care is not easy for any family, but it is a necessary part of life. November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month and MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital is helping Hospice of St. Mary’s County to urge residents to learn the importance of planning for the care they would want it they were facing a serious or life-limiting illness.
Healthy Partnership Plans Annual Meeting
The Healthy St. Mary’s Partnership will host its second annual meeting from 8 am to noon Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, at the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center.
Artist Matus to Show Work at MedStar St. Mary’s
See the beautiful work of artist Bernard “Bernie” Matus at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, Maryland, this fall. The artist’s photos and digital designs have been put on display in the atrium of the hospital. If any of the pieces are sold, Mr. Matus will donate a percentage of the proceeds to the hospital foundation’s scholarship fund.
Breast Health Fair Set Oct. 18
The breast care team at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown provides St. Mary’s County with exceptional service and medical care. Learn about the team and get a wealth of information at the Breast Health Fair from 2:30 to 5:30 pm Oct. 18, 2016, at the College of Southern Maryland Leonardtown Campus. The fair will be located in the Wellness Center, Building D.
MedStar Series: Living Well with Chronic Conditions
MedStar’s Living Well six-week-long series on self-management of chronic conditions helps you manage your symptoms and live your life your way. Three different workshops will be offered. The first workshop begins Aug. 14.

Recognizing June as National Aphasia Awareness Month, MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital offers information sessions June 28 and 30, to help educate people about the communication disorder affecting about 2 million Americans.
Celebrate Being a Cancer Survivor
National Cancer Survivors Day is Sunday, June 5, and MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital is joining the rest of the country in celebrating the event by hosting a free picnic on the lawn in front of the hospital at 1 pm that day.
County Places 10th in Health Rankings
St. Mary’s County ranks 10th in the state for health, according to the 2016 County Health Rankings by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, released recently and publicized by MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in the Healthy St. Mary’s Partnership newsletter.
Survey Can Improve Annual Meeting
The Healthy St. Mary’s Partnership, supported by MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital, has begun to plan its second annual meeting and is hoping that potential participants will find a few minutes to fill out a survey before the meeting.
