Students Explore Engineering on Spring Break

engineering

Eighth- and ninth-grade students who love engineering will have a great time at the one-week education program offering by NAWCAD Educational Outreach Office (EOO) during the week of St. Mary’s County Public Schools spring break, March 21 through 25, 2016, sponsored in part by The Patuxent Partnership.

The Engineering Exploration Experience, or E3, will give students an incredible opportunity to learn about five specific fields of the discipline, to learn about in-state college programs that offer those degrees, to try hands-on activities that relate to those fields, to meet and talk to engineers who work in those fields, and to tour sites where that type of work is being done.

This first, unique E3 event has been created specifically for military dependents from both active duty and retired military in the Southern Maryland region. There are just 20 spots available to participate. Parents or guardians must sign a permission form, including a release of liability and photo release.

Applications will be accepted until March 11, 2016. There is no charge for attending.

E3 will be held in the former STARBASE classroom in Room 102 in Building 588 on Patuxent River Naval Air Station from 8 am to 4:30 pm each day. Parents must transport their students each day of the one-week program to the classroom. Students will ride in vans mid-day and to the on-station tour sites. Each day the students will learn about a different field of engineering: mechanical, electrical, aerospace, computer and chemical.
